Morning
Early morning departure to Sajama National Park. Stop along the way to visit the unique church of Calamarca that hosts a precious collection of paintings of angels and archangels owed to 'The Master of Calamarca', an anonymous painter of the late 18th century.
At the Aymara community of Curahuara of Carangas, find out about one of the most ancient catholic churches of the continent. Built in the late 16th century, its elaborate paintings show how the Spanish priests integrated local beliefs creating a religious art specific to the region.
Afternoon
Arrival at the Sajama National Park, the first nature reserve in Bolivia, established in 1939 to protect the keñua (polylepis tarapacana), a special Andean tree that only grows on the high plateau. The park's name comes from the Sajama volcano, the highest summit in Bolivia at 21.463 ft (6548 m) which is located right in the middle of the park.
