Day 1 ARRIVAL TO LIMA

Arrival and welcome at the Lima International Airport.

Private transfer to your hotel (45 min).

Overnight at Casa Republica or Atemporal.

Day 2 LIMA HISTORICAL CITY TOUR, LARCO MUSEUM

Morning

Start your city tour with a drive around the upmarket district of Miraflores, famous for its 'Malecon' (the strand) and Larcomar, the huge iconic shopping center overlooking the ocean.

You will then drive past the Huaca Pucllana archeological site on your way to visit the historical center of the capital (30 min).

The city, founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, still features many invaluable colonial buildings along the main square (the Plaza Mayor) and the nearby streets.

Discover Lima's Cathedral, the Government Palace, and the San Francisco Convent among many other impressive colonial buildings.

Afternoon

Drive to the district of Pueblo Libre to visit the Larco Herrera Museum that hosts the largest private collection of pre-Columbian art in the world (2 hours). Housed in an 18th century colonial mansion, the museum displays the finest collection of Pre-Columbian gold and silver artefacts from ancient Peru, along with a famous collection of erotic Mochicas ceramics. Take the unusual opportunity to visit the museum's storage area that counts more than 45,000 carefully-classified archaeological objects.

Evening

Evening at Huaca Pucllana restaurant, which cuisine stands out for its use of local products of the best available quality without sacrificing creativity: a well understood simplicity and care of adequate cooking procedure enhance the flavors instead of downplaying them.

Day 3 FLIGHT TO CUSCO, SACRED VALLEY: PISAC MARKET AND RUINS

Morning

In the morning, transfer to the Lima airport (30 min) for your direct flight to Cusco (1 hour 15 min).

Afternoon

In the afternoon, drive from Cusco to the village of Pisac (1 hour) with its famous Sunday market where many indigenous Quechua communities meet to sell and trade their goods. The rest of the week, the whole place is bustling with its handicraft and souvenir market. You will have time to search for jewelry, ponchos, hats, traditional music instruments, ceramics, alpaca products, and many other typical Andean crafts (1 hour 30 min).

Visit Pisaqa, Intihuatana, Q’allaqasa, and Kinchiracay. (1 hour 30 min). All 4 places are part of an Inca site on the nearby hill at an altitude of 10,980 feet (3345 m).

The Inca shaped the hill by carving the ingenious terraces that are still used for agriculture to this day. 

With military, religious, and agricultural structures, the site was an important and busy place in the time of the Incas.

Day 4 MARAS SALT PONDS, MORAY AGRICULTURAL TERRACES, CHINCHERO TOWN, COUPLE BLESSING

Honeymoon Special: Get ready for a couple blessing realized by a local Shaman. According to Andean tradition, getting married is not a material union but a ceremony that requires both parties to come with a pure and open heart and the belief that their love for their partner will be strong enough to sustain a lifelong union. In Inca lore, marriage fosters an unbreakable bond between Mother Earth and the newlyweds. It is the opportunity to thank the Pachamama (Mother Earth) for this union with a "pagapus", an offering made by the shaman following ancestral traditions.

Morning

Transfer to the site of Maras (30 min).

Walk between the hundreds of salt ponds used to dry the salt according to a method inherited from pre-inca times.

The many colors of the polygonal ponds can go from light reddish to brownish to white according to the season. This contrasts with the surrounding landscape and gives the site a most-unusual aspect.

Free time to shop pink salt collected by the local community workers.

Transfer to Moray archeological site (30 min).

Walk around and down those impressive circular agricultural terraces that were used to conduct scientific experiments in Inca times (30 min).

Transfer back to Chinchero (45 min).

Afternoon

Finish your tour with a visit of the small town of Chinchero, where the original upper village is an open-air museum. The small cobbled alleyways are lined with craft shops that seem to have been frozen in time. Follow the path that leads to an esplanade where a beautiful white church stands out against the background of the tall Andean mountains.

Transfer back to your hotel (45 min).

Day 5 MACHU PICCHU TOUR

Your passport is required to enter the Machu Picchu site. You have the option to get a 'Machu Picchu' stamp in your passport if you wish.

Morning

Today might be THE day you have been expecting since you landed on Peruvian soil, as you will finally discover the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu.

Transfer to Ollantaytambo train station (30 min).

Board the comfortable train that will take you to Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Picchu (1 hour 30 min).

In Aguas Calientes, walk from the train to the bus station (5 min) and hop on a bus to reach the entrance of the archaeological site.

Afternoon

Enjoy the impressive 20-minute drive up the hill to the Machu Picchu site at 7,972 feet (2430 m). Rediscovered in 1911 by the American archaeologist Hiram Bingham, Macchu Picchu is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Learn about every secret this ancient Inca citadel holds and grab every opportunity to take photographs (3 to 4 hours).

Take the bus back to Aguas Calientes (20 min) and board the train back to Ollantaytambo (1 hour 30 min).

Transfer to your hotel in Cusco (1 hour 30 min).

Evening

Evening and dinner at the LIMO Restaurant. Located in the second floor of a typical colonial house in Cusco, it offers a privileged city view on the Plaza de Armas. LIMO is the best place to enjoy many Andean and Amazonian exotic fruit cocktails.

Overnight at El Mercado or Aranwa Hotel.

Day 6 HALF-DAY CUSCO CITY AND RUINS TOUR, FREE TIME, SPA TREATMENT

Morning

In the morning, you will meet your guide for a city tour of Cusco including a visit of the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral, and the Korikancha, the original Temple of the Sun.

Drive to the hills of Cusco to explore the archaeological site of Sacsayhuamán.

Transfer back to your hotel or to the city centre (20 min).

Afternoon

Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure to explore the Spanish colonial city known to the Inca as the 'belly button of the world'.

Stroll around numerous plazas, visit shops that sell incredible art and crafts, or visit the great Pre-Columbian Museum MAP (not included).

Evening

Day 7 FLIGHT TO PUERTO MALDONADO, AMAZON RAINFOREST ACTIVITIES

Morning

In the morning, transfer to Cusco's airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado (45 min).

Arrival in Puerto Maldonado. Welcome and transfer to the lodge office to leave your large suitcases in a secure facility.

Please note: you are limited to 15 kg of luggage for your stay in the lodge. The rest of your belongings will be kept in the locker until you return.

Transfer to the Puerto Maldonado pier. Enjoy a 25-minute boat ride to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion lodge.

Afternoon

Take a walk along the Concepcion Trails, winding through the property’s nature trails for an immersive introduction to the intricate ecosystems of the Amazon basin. Backed by the protected Tambopata National Reserve and built on the grounds of a former cacao and rubber plantation, Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion harbours primary and secondary rainforest teeming with exotic wildlife and tropical plants.

Evening

At dusk, witness the enchanting transformation of the rainforest from a diurnal to a nocturnal environment on a guided Twilight River boat ride as animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially adapted to the shadows of the night. See if you can spot caiman lurking on the riverbanks and stars of the southern hemisphere.

Day 8 AMAZON RAINFOREST ACTIVITIES

Morning

This morning, you will visit Lake Sandoval: a glassy, ox-bow lake located inside the protected Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Reached via a sun-dappled jungle trail, Inkaterra explorer guides enjoy regaling visitors with their tales of unexpected encounters with poison frogs and camouflaged creatures. Board a dugout wooden canoe to quietly paddle through mangroves and glide onto Lake Sandoval, flanked by picture-perfect palms. This serene lake is home to thousands of species of birds, the endangered giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles, and black caimans.

Afternoon

Return to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion in time for lunch. In the afternoon, take a 20-minute boat ride across the Madre de Dios River to climb the exhilarating Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and navigate the Anaconda Walk. The Inkaterra Canopy Walkway is a sophisticated and safe 344 metre (1,135 feet) network of seven ecologically constructed hanging suspension bridges, strung between eight treetop observation platforms above the forest floor. Originally constructed for our non-profit organization, the Inkaterra Asociación, to carry out conservation projects, this is an unforgettable opportunity to observe the rainforest from the rooftop and gain a sense of its colossal size. Ascend the first vertiginous tower 38 metres (124 feet) above ground, keeping an eye out for white-throated toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys, and the three-toed sloth.

Evening

Back at the base, follow the Anaconda Walk strolling the seasonally flooded aguajales wetlands on an elevated wooden boardwalk. Come nightfall, under the cover of darkness, explore the rainforest on foot as your senses heighten to the movements in the undergrowth and the raucous sounds of the rainforest.

Day 9 AMAZON RAINFOREST ACTIVITIES

Morning

After breakfast in the lodge, discover the rainforest´s tropical plants and their intriguing medicinal uses by local communities as you visit our organic bio-orchard. Later, continue ontoto our 30-hectare Palmetum, a collection of 19 Amazonian palms in a plot reserved for rainforest restoration and conservation.

Afternoon

After a tasty lunch in the Casa Grande dining room, enjoy a relaxing paddle boat ride in a dugout canoe on the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion’s oxbow shaped lagoon or cocha. Row out onto the caramel-coloured water to enjoy the scenery and spot hoatzins, fly catchers, and graynecked woodrails, perhaps accompanied with the sounds of red howler monkeys bellowing in the distance. Get close to the surprising remains of a semi-submerged steamboat in waters that also hide the renowned caiman and piranha. Using the practice of catch and release, you can fish for piranha like the local indigenous communities do, using a simple wooden rod.

Evening

During the evening, you will be able to participate in the Inland Collpa where you will see different species and their night routines by observing through our “blinds”.

Day 10 FLIGHT TO LIMA, FREE AFTERNOON

Morning

Enjoy your last morning waking to the cacophony of jungle sounds in this unspoilt natural wonderland, as parakeets chatter away in the trees and monkeys swing through the treetops. Breakfast is served in the Casa Grande with check-out at 10 am. Depending on the time of your departure flight today, lunch can also be arranged (additional cost applies). Embark on your motorized wooden boat for the 25-minute return trip along the snaking Madre de Dios River. You will make a short visit to a Butterfly House before reaching the airport. Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, with 3,700 known species. Many of these can be seen at the Butterfly House, which serves to showcase the variety, beauty, and adaptability of these fascinating insects.

Afternoon

In the afternoon, transfer to Puerto Maldonado's airport for your flight back to Lima (1 hour 30 min).

Arrival and transfer to your hotel (45 min).

Evening at Astrid & Gaston Restaurant, run by the most influencial peruvian Chef, Gaston Acurio, the ambassador of peruvian cuisine. It is located in a XVII Hacienda in the modern district of San Isidro, where you will celebrate peruvian food and its diversity.
