Morning
City tour of São João del Rei. Born in 1702, this city is one of the largest, most important, and ancient eighteenth-century mining towns in Brasil.
For the enchantment of local residents and tourists, the city keeps alive a centuries-old tradition: the ringing of the church bells. This bell performs customs sounds such as "city of the bells" and "land where the bells speak" that play to serenade the entire city. The historic center of the city displays fountains, monumental bridges, and beautiful colonial mansions. The main attraction is the Tancredo Neves Memorial, created to honor the Brazilian lawyer and politician born in the city.
Afternoon
Transfer to Congonhas (2 hours) and enjoy a city tour upon arrival. Located in a valley and framed by majestic mountains, Congonhas do Campo, 70 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, bewitches its visitors with the beauty of its rich Baroque heritage. The city is best known as the Cidade dos Profetas “The City of the Prophets”, in reference to the sculptures of the 12 prophets of the Bible installed in front of the Santuário do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos. This spectacular Baroque treasure is the work of Aleijadinho, the greatest master of Baroque art in Brazil, who also decorated the entire sanctuary. Due to its elegant and timeless nature, the city has earned its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity since 1986.
