Itinerary

Day 1 ARRIVAL TO SANTIAGO AND CITY BIKE TOUR

Morning

Meet and greet your private English speaking guide upon arriving at Santiago International Airport, and transfer to your downtown hotel to drop off your luggage.

Afternoon

After you've settled at the hotel, embark on a guided bike tour of Santiago, and visit the urban green spaces and cultural highlights of a vibrant downtown. Take in La Moneda's elegant neoclassical facades, and continue biking to Plaza de Armas, the bustling heart of Santiago, enveloped by government offices and historical buildings.

Return to your hotel.

Day 2 FLIGHT TO TEMUCO, PUCON: HORSE BACK RIDING

Morning

Transfer to Santiago International Airport for your morning flight to Temuco (1 hour 20 minutes), the capital of the wildly scenic Araucanía Region.

From the airport, transfer to your hotel in Pucón (1 hour 40 minutes).

Afternoon

Depart from your hotel for Huepil Malal, a riding center 27 km away, for an afternoon of horseback riding through Pucón’s naturally stunning surroundings. With expert rider, Rodolfo, who proudly boasts 40 years of experience, you'll navigate the gentle Pehue tree-covered hills, against a dramatic backdrop of towering volcanic peaks. Following your excursion, return to Pucón.

Day 3 BUDI LAKE, MAPUCHE COMMUNITY

Morning

From your hotel, head to Budi Lake, 190 km northwest of Pucón (3 hours). 

End of the morning, arrival to Pucon which lakeshore boasts two small towns - Saavedra and Puerto Dominguez, mostly inhabited by the Mapuche, the indigenous inhabitants of south-central Chile.

Afternoon

Visit a traditional Mapuche home, known as a ruka, which is primarily constructed of wood and sedge. Here, take part in their daily customs and sample the unique flavors of their local cuisine which heavily emphasizes the fruits of the earth. After lunch, return to Pucón with a stop in the town of Carahue, a picturesque destination nestled along the banks of the Imperial River, once an important shipping route for the Mapuche.

Drive back to Pucon (3 hours).

Day 5 CABURGA LAKE AND EYES

Morning

Head to Caburgua Lake this morning, 25 km northeast of Pucón (45 minutes), its spectacular views of the three surrounding volcanoes - Villarrica, Quetrupillán and Lanín, framed by the free-flowing Trancura and Liucura Rivers, wooded forests, and snow-dusted peaks.

See the Eyes of the Caburga 2 km away, a series of 3 cascading waterfalls that range between 15 and 20 m in height, its stunning turquoise waters nestled in the depths of a Valdivian forest. Following your visit, return to your hotel in Pucón.

Day 5 LICANRAY-VILLARRICA NATIONAL PARK: GEOMETRIC HOTSPRINGS

Morning

Leave the hotel this morning for the town of Licanray, about 86 kilometers south of Pucón (55 minutes), and arrive at the Geometric Hot Springs, located in the lush forests of Villarrica National Park. First opened in 2009, this complex features 20 slated thermal pools with temperatures ranging between 30° C and 45° C, all fuelled by some 60 different sources of thermal water. The pools are artfully connected by a system of red wooden walkways, which allow you to spend the morning pool hopping.

Afternoon

Drive back to Pucon (55 minutes) and enjoy a free afternoon with your kids.

Day 6 PUERTO VARAS: CITY TOUR, PUERTO MONTT

Morning

Leave your hotel this morning for a transfer to the city of Puerto Varas (3 hours 30 minutes), where you'll check-in at your hotel.

Afternoon

Embark on a guided city tour of Puerto Varas, dubbed “The City of Roses,” which enjoys a picturesque location on the banks of tranquil Lake Llanquihue. Following its shoreline, venture downtown, where you'll be greeted with a collection of charming Germanic style buildings, an ode to the city's colonial past. Renowned for its sweeping views of Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes, Puerto Varas is fast becoming a top destination for local holidaymakers and outdoor adventurers.

Continue the tour with a visit to Puerto Montt's highest point, and marvel at a panoramic view of the city and Tenglo Island, bound by the waves of the Pacific Ocean. From there, head to Plaza de Armas and tour the area's German-influenced architecture and enchanting gardens before continuing to Angelmó, one of Chile's most renowned markets, famous for its trinkets and shellfish and fish. Following the tour, return to Puerto Varas.

Day 7 OSORNO VOLCANO, VICENTE PEREZ ROSALES NATIONAL PARK, PETROHUE FALLS

Morning

Leave your hotel this morning for a  journey to Osorno Volcano (1  hour). 

Reach Ensenada, the gateway to the Osorno Volcano Ski Center and nearby Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Ascend the slopes of the volcano by lift, and enjoy time for snapping photos and viewing its summit, as well as Calbuco Volcano, Lake Llanquihue, and the Pacific Ocean.

Afternoon

Then on a walk, visit the tumbling Petrohué Falls at Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, shrouded by the depths of an evergreen forest, and come to a view of the Osorno Volcano and the dazzling turquoise of Petrohué River. Following the excursion, return to your hotel in Puerto Varas.

Day 8 CHILOE ISLAND: ANCUD, CASTRO, DALCAHUE

Morning

From your hotel, travel south to Pargua (2 hours) where you'll board a ferry across the Chacao Channel, which separates the mainland from Chiloé Island. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of sea wolves, pelicans, and sea birds during the sailing, and once you disembark in Chacao on the northern tip of Chiloé Island, head to Ancud to see the Spanish built San Antonio Fort. Situated at the city's highest point, this historic fortification offers a bird's eye view of Ancud.

Afternoon

Continue the tour with a visit to Dalcahue, famous for its crafts fair and stalls of colorfully woven wool socks and sweaters. Though it's open daily, the market is at its peak on Sundays, when surrounding communities come to participate. Conclude your time in Dalcahue with a visit to its UNESCO World designated church, and continue your trip to Castro, the capital of Chiloé Island. Visit the San Francisco Church, the centerpiece of the city's Plaza de Armas, and contemplate its wooden interiors and unconventional vibrant yellow and violet facade. Following your time on Chiloé Island, return to Puerto Varas.

Day 9 KAYAKING IN ESCONDIDA LAGOON

Morning

Transfer to La Poza Lagoon (20 minutes) this morning and embark on a 3-hour kayaking tour. Traverse its gentle waters as you admire a view of the Calbuco Volcano, and paddle until you reach Escondida Lagoon. From your kayak, revel in the silence of nature and witness birds take flight above you. 

Return to Puerto Varas following the tour.
