The Altiplano, the High Plateau, is a part of Bolivia that should not be missed. Located South of La Paz, this dry and cold region of the world stretches into the neighboring countries of Peru and Argentina. What may sound like an unhospitable and plain landscape is a true natural wonder and a sight to behold. Just imagine yourself stepping on the world's largest salt flats. During the dry season, walking on the Salar of Uyuni is like stepping on a white moon and with the wet season, the flats turn into an endless reflecting mirror on which you will feel transported, floating on a thin film of water (from Dec to Jan). This is a must-see destination, but the region's best kept secret lies in the North and South Lipez provinces. This itinerary will also take you further South, on the Chilean border, where flamingos fly over green, red, orange and turquoise lagoons, where deserts are populated with astounding rock formations, geysers and volcanos. Bolivia boasts some of the most incredible and preserved landscapes of all South America, and all its secrets are yours to see.
