This region has been described as the archetype of what the Amazon used to be like and it has it all; dense rain-forest, vast open savannas, winding tropical rivers, large numbers of birds and mammals...Then experience an adrenaline rush with the « Road of Dead », which is an 80-90 kilometer stretch leading from La Paz, Bolivia to the small city of Coroico, located to the north in the Bolivian Yungas, a jungle high in the Andes Mountains.

Day 1 Arrival in La Paz: city tour

§  Welcome to the international airport of La Paz, located at 13,319 ft (4,060 m) altitude.  

La Paz, the seat of Government, located at 3,650m above sea level is enclosed in a basin of the Bolivian Altiplano crowned by the majestic Illimani. This steep city, full of life and color (and traffic jams ...) , offers a stunning blend of tradition and modernity.

§  Transfer and hotel registration. 

§  Lunch on your own.

§  In the afternoon a city tour: the viewpoint of Montículo, an exploration of the city, then move on to Laykacota viewpoint that is in the area of Miraflores, one of the oldest parts of the city. Continue to the Killi Killi overlook for a complete view of the city's main monuments, buildings and the majestic Illimani.

§  Transfer and hotel installation

§  Dinner on your own.

§  Night at the hotel.


Day 2 La Paz / Rurrenabaque

§  Breakfast at the hotel.

§  Transfer to the international airport "El Alto" to catch our flight to Rurrenabaque (about 1 hour)

§  Arrival in Rurrenabaque, located at 899ft (274 m) altitude and transfer to hotel.

§  Lunch on your own.

§  Afternoon free.

§  Dinner on your own.

§  Night in Rurrenabaque.


Day 3 Rurrenabaque / Chalalán (National Park Madidi)

§  Breakfast at the hotel.

§  Departure to Chalalán in a motor boat (about 6 h) passing through the Beni and Tuichi rivers, to get to the heart of the National Park of Madidi. 

§  Tapeque (packed lunch) on the way.

§  Arrival and walk (about 25 minutes) on the path called "jaguar" to get to the Ecolodge. 

§  Arrival and installation at Ecolodge.

§  Welcome lunch included.

§  In the afternoon, walk by the "Paraba" path to discover the traditional and durable use of wood for construction.  Arrival at Lake Lookout from where a beautiful view of the lake and huge forest of Madidi Park can be seen. 

§  Return to the lake and navigate by boat on the rivers to observe the local fauna: monkeys, birds, insects, bats, etc. Return to Chalalán.

§  Diner included at Ecolodge.

§  Navigate by boat on the lake to observe the nocturnal fauna: amphibians, nocturnal birds, sinner bats and crocodiles.

§  Return to Ecolodge.

§  Night in Chalalán.


Day 4 Chalalán (National Park Madidi)

§  Breakfast at the Ecolodge Chalalán.

§  Walk on the "Tapacaré" path or similar (about 4 hours) to observe the thick forest and the wildlife. 

§  Return to Ecolodge.

§  Diner included at Ecolodge.

§  Short walk to observe the medicinal plants.

§  Return and time off to rest or participate in optional activities such as making crafts, a boat trip on the lake or to watch videos about the park and the surrounding community.

§  Traditional "dunucuabi" dinner included.

§  Walk on the "Paraba" walk or "Silvador" to observe amphibians, reptiles, insects, spiders, rodents, birds and nocturnal monkeys.

§  Return to Ecolodge and participate in a traditional evening Quechua – Tacana with local music and traditional dances of the San José de Uchupiamonas community.

§  Night in Chalalán.


Day 5 Chalalán / Rurrenabaque / La Paz

§  Breakfast at the Ecolodge Chalalán.

§  Walk to the port of the Tuichi River to take the boat back to Rurrenabaque.

§  Arrival and transfer to the airport to catch the flight to La Paz (about 1h).

§  Arrival and transfer to hotel.

§  Lunch on your own.

§  Afternoon free.

§  Dinner on your own.

§  Night in hotel.


Day 6 La Paz / The Road of Death : descent in Mountain Bike / Coroico / La Paz

§  Breakfast at the hotel.

§  Morning transfer (about 6h30) to mountain bike station to choose the equipment to wear during descent.

§  Departure to La Cumbre, a pass situated at about 15,092 ft. (4,601m) altitude.First stage: descent by mountain bike on the paved road up to the Unduavi control.  The landscaping is dominated by the Snow Mountains.

§  Return to the vehicle and continue on to Chuspipata.Second stage: descent by mountain bike by the "road of death", an old track that went to Coroico. The lush landscape is in stark contrast to the first stage.

§  Arrival in Yolosa city and return to the vehicle and continue on to Santa Barbara.

§  Restaurant facilities available: showers and pool.  

§  Lunch included.

§  Return to La Paz.

§  Arrival and registration at hotel.

§  Dinner on your own.

§  Night at hotel.


Day 7 Departure from La Paz

§   Breakfast at the hotel.

§  At time indicated, transfer to airport for your flight.

§  Baggage check and passenger boarding.
